Recently, my agency, Southwest Premier Insurance Agency, in Gilbert, Arizona had a Canadian client who was having difficulty renewing their vehicle registration here in Arizona. Upon researching the problem, it was discovered that when she went back to her home in Canada she forgot to de-insure her car with the State of Arizona. This was a problem because she did remember to call us to remove the liability coverage from the policy and only keep the Comprehensive Coverage active while the car sat in her garage. From the state's point of view she was violating insurance statutes in Arizona because the car was registered, but there wasn't the required liability insurance because of our changes to the policy.
So, if you have a car that will be sitting for at least 30 days due to mechanical problems, or it won't be driven because you'll be escaping our summer heat then you'll want to follow these steps to De-Insure Your Car in Arizona the Right Way.
- Go to www.ServiceArizona.com and find this link.

- Follow the Instruction to De-Insure your car.
- Then call your Insurance Agent to request that liability and Collision be removed from your policy while you're away or the car isn't functional.
- A few days before you want to drive the car again follow these steps but in reverse.
If you don't follow these steps, you'll receive a letter from the State of Arizona stating you're not properly insured. If you ignore this letter your car registration will be suspended which will cause additional hassle for you.
You'll only want to De-Insure your car if you're positive it won't be driven at all. Not even down the block! So, if there is the slightest possibility that someone could drive your car while you're staying cool in the summer then you definitely don't want to de-insure your car.
If you have any questions about this procedure please feel free to call my agency any time. We're here to help you navigate the insurance waters here in Arizona.
