Is it too much to ask to expect excellence from your insurance agency?  Recently, I received a call from a friend who was in a panic because she found out her auto insurance had been lapsed for nearly three months.  Can you imagine?  What if she had been in an accident, her car stolen, or even a cracked windshield?  It could have been devastating to her and her financial future.

Thank goodness nothing bad happened!

By the way, I wasn't her insurance agent when this happened.  But I am now!

Well, I was able to get her covered within about 30 minutes or so and at the same rate.  But a lapse in coverage could have cost her a lot more money.  Insurance companies don't look favorably at lapses and unfortunately they don't care if it was the fault of the agent or yours for simply not paying.  It doesn't matter.

The fact is it shouldn't have happened and her agent simply left her unprotected by not communicating with her when her credit card expiration dates ended which caused her automatic payment to stop.  Easy solution to a routine occurrence.

Moral of the story: Expect excellence from your agent even in routine situations.  Know that they have "your back" at all times.  If you don't feel comfortable with your agent and/or agency staff then it's in your best interest to seek a new professional.  Don't wait it could cost you dearly.
